The ATARI documentary proves that video game scores, and mullets, YES MULLETS, are a very serious business. Everyone is out to set a new speedrun or some other video game-related record, so it's hard to keep up sometimes. You can play DONKEY KONG until your thumbs are as thick as your neck and never come close to the masters' scores, but at least you'll have a good time doing it. If getting your name etched into the annals of gaming history is your thing, you can aim really high… but there are some records you'll have a really hard time beating. SO GAME ON AT THE HARPCADE

Space Invaders is quite simply the most influential video-game of all time. A single player moves an armed 'laser base' left or right along the bottom of the screen and shoots the endless waves of aliens marching relentlessly down the screen towards earth. There are four buildings (shields) at the bottom of the screen that the player can hide behind, but these will eventually be destroyed by either enemy missiles or by direct contact with the invaders themselves. The player's shots will also destroy the shields. The aliens' descent quickens as they are eliminated, making them harder to hit. A flying saucer will fly across the top of the screen at regular intervals and can be shot to earn extra points.

Chris Flynn, who has been described in this space as the Zany Wizard of Main St. in Metuchen, has done it again. Apparently not satisfied with having one of the most popular pubs in central Jersey, Flynn has expanded what he fondly calls "the craic" to include a new kind of entertainment--a Retro Arcade called HarpCade which is now an official part of the Hailey's Harp & Pub Experience.

Hailey's Harp-Cade, a classic game arcade attached to Hailey's Harp and Pub, is now open for business in Metuchen

METUCHEN – Most bustling downtowns have an abundance of popular restaurants and colorful retail shops. But in the age of the internet, there’s one component that can sometimes be left out — or more fittingly, at home — a business that can offer an experience or an activity.

Due to the extreme competitive nature of the Addams Family pinball machine at the Hailey's Harp-cade, we are excited to announce that we are looking for patrons to join our first ever ADDAMS FAMILY PINBALL LEAGUE! Tuesday November 1st will be our first meeting, and the league will run for 8 weeks. There will be 3 games played a night by each player, and at the end of 4 weeks the top 3 scores for each player will be tallied and eliminations will commence. Prize yet to be determined, all we ask as an entrance fee is $1 which will go to charity. If you are interested in joining this league please let us know, mark your calendars and show up on November 1st!
